“New Year’s resolutions shouldn't be expected to begin on New Year’s Day. Since, it’s an extension of New Year’s Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system. Also, dieting on New Year’s Day isn't a good idea as you can’t eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to ease your hangover. I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second.” – Helen Fielding I second that. Makes sense :) Don’t you think so? When I read these lines I thought why not write on New Year Resolutions and guess what clicked me first……. “What is your New Year Resolution?” which is the favorite question asked these days as we welcome year 2009. The most common answers are: “I m gonna quit drinking” from the Dipsomaniacs. “I will give some time to my family along with work” from the Workaholics. “I m gonna lose some weight” from the health conscious gals. Shopaholics like “Me” say “I m gonna spend less in Shopping” and the list continues….. I am damn sure every individual has some New Year Resolutions; though some are introverts while some extroverts to share them with others. But these resolutions, plans and the enthusiasm hardly lasts for more than month in majority. It’s been rightly said by someone: “New Year Resolutions are simply checks that people draw on a bank where they have no account”. How many of us actually stick to our resolutions till we achieve them. I would say “Resolutions” merely stay behind as hopes for things to get better in the year ahead since we actually don’t put in the required efforts to achieve them. As the year ends we realize that we need to work on the same resolutions again. To avoid let this happen in future, let us try this year to work hard on at least one resolution and reduce the count in the next year’s resolution list. There’s nothing we can’t accomplish with the right positive attitude and “Never say Quit” spirit provided the goal is attainable. We should also make it a point to reward ourselves which can jazz up our life on accomplishment of the goal. Kudos to people who achieve and stick to their resolutions! They can share their experiences on this blog which can inspire all of us or just mail me. Your emails are always welcome. In the end I would like to quote: “The New Year lies before you Like a spotless tract of snow Be careful how you tread on it For every mark will show.”
